2020 Garden Update #3

A lot has happened in a month…

STRAWBERRIES

Before: (April 20th) transplanted Strawberries.
Ozark Beauty Variety
After: (May 11th) I lost a few but still have 30+ growing strong.

GROW ROOM

Turned the pantry into a grow room!
Another growing area. Waiting on LED grow lights to replace the florescent grow bulbs. Yes that is a bug zapper!!

SOIL

(April 23rd) Bainter’s Construction arrived with our topsoil. Just about 11 cubic yards!

We also got 2 cubic yards of amazing compost and 10 bags of Vermiculite from Cashman’s Nursery in Bozeman and 12 bags of Peat Moss from Murdoch’s.

GARDEN

(May 9th) We got all the fifteen 4×4 double decker raised beds built and hoops attached! Left side are all the self-watering containers for all the tomatoes. The fence that splits the yard in half is up also so the dogs will stay out of the garden.
Each 4×4 raised bed will have 2.5 cubic feet of Top Soil, 2.5 cubic feet of Compost, 1.5 cubic feet of Vermiculite and 1.5 cubic feet of PeatMoss = 8 cubic feet of soil per raised bed.

SEEDLINGS

(April 20th) Getting all the 72 cell trays ready for seeds. I like to fill the cells with starter soil and then fill the tray up with water and set the cell insert in to the water and let the soil soak up water from the bottom. Then after the water is absorbed I spray the tops with water using a spray bottle.
(April 30th) Filled 5 of the cell trays with vegetables and herbs. 3 trays filled up with flowers. I was behind in starting my seeds. I didn’t sow the first round indoors until April 20th!
(May 11th) The last few days I have been transplanting the seedlings into bigger containers.
(May 11th)
Yes that is a bug zapper!
One Swiss Chard is so happy it’s doing the DAB!

All in all the garden is coming along pretty well. I am getting anxious to get plants into the soil. Seeing snow this morning didn’t help!

We only have 4 raised beds filled with amazing soil and only 11 more to go. YIKES!

Are any of you planting a garden this year?
